My Life being Disabled 28/02/11

Yesterday I had Mulligatawny soup for lunch. I watched television afterwards but when I tried to exercise my arms they felt very stiff. I only exercised my legs. I watched televisionall afternoon. I had Chilli con Carne and ice cream for tea. I continued watching television with my legs on my buffet and 19:00 I watched St George Illawarra beat Wigan 21- 15 in The World Club Championship at the DW stadium. Afterwards I continued watching television until 21:45 when I asked to go to bed.
This morning I woke up at 06:00 and watched television until 08:15. I got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room where I waited for the nurse to take my blood/sugar level 6.8. I had my breakfast and went to the computer room. I checked my mail, checked what time True Grit starts tomorrow at Escape Cineworld 13:40. I also looked at the Nettos website and found they are selling shaver sets at £10 and hair cutter at £7.

After lunch I started doing my exercises but at 14:00 one of the carers asked me if I wanted to go to a quiz in the conference room. I went with several residents from Darbyshire and Fuller. We had two quizzes, music and gerenal knowledge. After we played music bingo and bingo in which I won some deodarant and some shower gel. I went back to my room but the control of my electrical wheelchair broke, again, so I told the nurse. She said she would report it to Clarke and Parteners. I watched television until 16:30 and I had pizza for tea. I went back to my room and watched but the nurse told me that my catheter was due to be changed and she would change it now. It only took her 15 minutes and I put my legs onto my buffet and watched Bradford beat The Crusaders at Rubgy League in Wrexham. After I continued to watch television until 21:30 when I went to bed.

This morning I woke up at 03:00 and watched television until 08:15. I got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had my breakfast then went into the computer room at 10:00.

My Life being Disabled 26/02/11

On Monday I had my lunch at 12:00 because I was going to the dentist. The skills were taking me at 13:00. We set off to Barnsley but we encoutered a traffic jam and didn't arrive until 13:50. We went into the waiting room and the person from skills went to Morrison's. I went into the dentist's surgery but found a new dentist because the old one was on long term sick. He examined my teeth and decided to give me false teeth because I had 9 extractions in hospital the week before. But my gums were not ready so I had to wait for 3 months. He gave me another appointment to clean my teeth, have a filling and take my measurements for my false teeth.
We went back home and I started reading my book called QI The Book of General Ignorance. I had my teeth and I watched television until 22:30 when I went to bed.
On Tuesday I woke up at 06:30 and watched television until 08:15. I had my bladder wash, got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. The carers went to get my electical wheelchair and swop my moulded seat from my manual wheelchair but found out that the strap was broken. They spoke to the physio who was in charge of wheelchairs and decided I couldn't use my moulded seat. He reported to Wheelchair Services who told him it would be Friday to fix it. I stayed in my bed for 4 days watching television, reading and only getting out to have a shower every morning. I WAS BORED !!!


On Friday lunchtime I had Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas from the chips shop in Grimethorpe for a change it cost £5.25. After lunch Wheelchair Services came and mended my moulded seat. I stayed in my bedroom and tidied it up while watching television. I read my book and went to tea in the dining room. I had Cornish pastie and baked beans. I watched television including St. Helens lose to Warrington. This year St Helens are playing at Widnes Vickins home ground until their new ground has been built. I watched television until 23:30 when I told the carers I wanted to go to bed.
This morning I awoke at 07:00 watched television until 08:15. I called for the carers to tell them I was ready for my bladder wash and to turn my radiator on. The nurse came in at 08:20 and washed my bladder. I called for the carers at 08:30 to get me up, put me in my bathroom, clean my teeth and get shaved. I was then taken to the bathroom down the corridor to have a shower. After my shower I was put on my bed and dressed. I went to the dining room to have my breakfast then I went to the computer room. I ordered book from Amazon called "Sister" by Rosamond Lupton.

On Saturday afternoon I did my exercises, watched television and read my book. After tea I watched television but went to bed at 21:00. I must have fallen to sleep because I missed The Tudors.
I woke up at 06:30 and watched the television until 08:15. I called for a carer and asked to get up and turn my radiator on. I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had my breakfast and went to the computer room. I logged on to Ubumtu and watched The Tudors, Live at the Apollo, Aunt ..... the nurse. I had my lunch and went to my room. I tried to exercise but my arm felt stiff and I couldn't lift it. I decided to rest it. I watched television and finished my book called The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. I had soup again at tea because there were no skills on duty today. After tea I watched television until 22:30 and went to bed.
This morning I woke when my alarm souded but it was only 06:00 and I forgot to change my Monday alarm to 08:15. Last week I went to my doctors and had to get up at 06:00. I watched the television until 08:15. I got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. The carers changed my urine bag from a syphon which holds 750 mls to a knee bag which holds 1500 mls. I was put into my manual wheelchair because I was going to the dentist at 12:45. I went into the dining room and told the carer that I had to get my blood/sugar level taken. The nurse came and took my blood/sugar level which was 6.1. I went to the computer room after my breakfast.

Yesterday morning I loaded on my computer ubuntu. I had fish and mushy peas for lunch. I watched television, exercised and read my book but during my exercises the physio assistant asked if I wanted to do some water treatment on my right hand. She put my hand in very hot water and stretched it for 10 minutes. After tea I watched the television until 23:20 when I went to bed.
This morning I woke up at 05:30 and watched television until 08:20. I called for a carer to turn on my radiator and tell the nurse I was ready for my bladder wash. After my bladder wash the carers came to get me up and take my weight which was 91.5 kgs. I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room and noticed it was snowing. I had my breakfast and went to the computer room at 10:25.

Yesterday afternoon I asked if I could cook my fish but skills said somebody was using the Therapy kitchen all day. I told the nurse that the control on my wheelchair was loose and toreport it to Clarke & Parteners. He did and was told that they are coming out to mend my battery shelve tomorrow. I did my exercises, watched television and read my book. After tea I stayed in my wheelchair all evening. I went to bed at 22:00.
This morning I woke up at 05:30 and watched television until 08:15 when I called for a carer to get me up, turn my radiator on and tell him that I want my haircut. After I had my haircut I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room and had my breakfast. It smelt because the labourers were painting the corridor. I went to the computer room and somebody from skills told me they had bought another cable to connect a computer to the modem because one was faulty.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Netto's and bought 3 paets of ginger biscuits, 2 packets of wine gums and a box of pringles. I did some of my exercises, watched television and read my book. After tea I was transferred into the armchair and watched television until 22:00. I went to bed and fell asleep while watching television.
This morning I woke up at 04:50 and watched television until 08:15. I called for the carers and told them I was ready for my bladder wash. The nurse came in at 08:45 and after my bladder wash I went to the bathroom. I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room where somebody from skills told me the residents meeting was postponed until next week. After breakfast I went to the computer room and loaded Ubumtu on my computer.

Yesterday afternoon I was suppose make my Chilli at 14:30 but one of the skills had to take a resident to hospital. I was told I could make it 15:45. It was ready at 17:40 but I couldn't finish it because I felt full. After I was transferred to my armchair where I watched television until 22:30 when I asked to go to bed.
This morning I woke up at 05:30 and watched televion until 08:15. I called for my carers, got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room and had my breakfast. I went into the computer room. I decided because it was sunny and I want some more biscuits that I'll ask to go to Netto's this afternoon.

Yesterday afternoon I watched a male singer called Mick. He sang a lot Tamla Mortown and other soul songs. After tea I was transferred into a wheel/arm chair and watched television. I feel asleep around 20:00 until 22:00. I continued watching television until 23:00 when I asked to bed. I must have gone to sleep straight away and woke up at 06:30
I watched the televion until 08:15 when I called for a carer to tell them I was ready for my bladder wash. After using the bathroom I went to the computer room to watch Eastenders and Outcasts. This afternoon I am going to make Chilli con Carne.

My Life being Disabled 14/02/11

Yesterday afternoon I watched The Cruders beat Salford, Leeds beat Bradford and Hull KR beat Hull FC. I went to bed at 21:00 because I had to get up at 06:00 to attend my new GP. I watched television all night and never went to sleep.

This morning I got up at 06:00, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. The nurse check my blood/sugar level it was 6.8. I had breakfast before going to my new GP. He reviewed my medicine and changed a few. I asked what my blood/sugar level and he said 4.5 to 6.5. When I got back home the skills were having a coffee morning. We had a quiz and played bingo. At 11:00 we went to Morrison's to buy my ingrediants for my Chilli con Carne. I also bought some Vick, Fisherman's Friends, 2 bottle of water and some sugar free polo mints.
When we came back it was lunchtime and after I came into the computer room. This afternoon there is a male singer performing at 14:00

My Life being Disabled 13/02/11

Yesterday lunchtime I had fish and mushy peas. I had asked to cook my own but nobody from skills was available. After lunch I went to my bedroom and watched my television while doing my exercises. At 14:30 I started to watch Super League on Sky. This weekend is the first round from Cardiff and all seven matches are shown over the weekend. I watched Hddersfield beat Warrington, Harlequins beat Catalan, Castleford and Wigan drew with St. Helens.
After these matches I watch television and I went to bed at 21:00. I must have fallen to sleep because I don't remember watching the tudors. I woke up at 04:00 and watched television. I called for a carer at 08:15 and got up, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had my breakfast and asked the nurse for some paracetomal because I was getting a cold. I asked a carer if she would get me some Vick and Fisherman's Friends. I went into the computer room but somebody was using the intranet(Christian) but he was not there. When came he asked when I wanted to see True Grit and we agreed on 01/03/11.

I stayed on the computer until 18:00 last night. I watched television in my wheelchair until 23:10. I went to bed and continued watching television until I fell asleep.

This morning I woke up at 05:00 and watched television until 08:15 when I called for a carer. I told him that I was ready for my bladder wash. The nurse washed my bladder out and I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. After my breakfast I went to the computer room at 10:00.

My Life being Disabled 11/02/11

On Wednesday afternoon my transport came at 13:20 and we arrived at The Northern General Hospital at 14:30, although my appointment was for 14:00. After reporting to the receptionist I was taken through to an office were they 5 people. They introduced themselves b ut I can't remember all of them. The asked me a few questions and then put in a chair. The chair was covered with polystyrene balls which was connected to an air pump. The contractor moved the polystyrene balls to fit my body and blew the bag up. He continued until it fitted perfectly and from this he will make the mould.
The man from wheelchair services said Clarke & Parteners will pick up my manual wheelchair when my mould is ready. He gave me another appointment on 23/03/11 at 14:00. We went back to the reception and waited for our transport which came at 15:50. We picked up another patient who lived in Barnsley and we got home at 17:30. The nurse took my blood/sugar level, which was 4.7. She took it because my doctor has presribed some more diabetic medicine.
After tea I stayed in my wheelchair and watched television until 22:30. I went to bed and woke up at 05:30 and watched television until 08:15. I had bladder wash, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had my breakfast and went into the computer room. The intranet was not working so I worked on my book about hacking.
In the afternoon I did my exercises but at 14:00 a carer came to tell me we had an entertainer but he's blown his equipment up so we're having a quiz and playing bingo. After I went to my room and read my book. After tea I watched television until 22:30 and went to bed.

This morning I woke at 06:00 and watched television until 08:15 when I called a carer but she said she was in the handover. I asked her to turn my radator on and could somebody cut my hair. They came back at 08:45, I got up, had my haircut, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the dining room to have my breakfast. The nurse came to give me my medicine and to tell me I've got an appoitment with my new GP on Monday at 08:10. I told the carers that I wanted to get up at 06:00 on Monday. After breakfast I went into the computer room and the intranet was not working again so I told a carer to tell the clerical people. I continued working on my hacking book. One of the clerical people came in and starting working on another computer.
Today I \asked if I could cook my own fish but there was no skills available. I had fish for dinner and did my exercises while watching television. After one of the carers told me that the intranet was working. I went into the computer room at 15:30, had my tea and went back at 17:00.

Yesterday afternoon I did my exercises, watched television and read my book. I had Chilli con Carne and ice cream for tea. I transferred into the arm/wheel chair and watched television but I fell asleep during Outcasts and woke up when the nurse came to give my medicine. I continued watching television until 23:00 when I asked to go to bed.
I woke up at 04:30 when the carer came to empty my night bag. I watched television until 08:15. I asked to get up then I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I changed my urine bag from a syphon bag to a knee bag because I was going to The Northern General Hospital. I have an appointment with Wheelchair Services at 14:00 and the transport is coming at 12:00. I've arranged for my lunch for 11:30.

My Life being Disabled 08/02/11

Yesterday afternoon I did my exercises and watched television. At 15:30 the carers came to take me Nettos. I bought 4 tins of Chilli con Carne, a tin of crisps, deodarant, shaving gel and some toothpaste. I wanted some sugar free polo mints but they didn't have any. We went to the Co-op to see if they sold them but they didn't. When we got home it was tea time.
After tea I transferred into the wheel/arm chair and watched the television. I think I fell asleep at 21:00 and woke up at 22:00 missing Outcasts. I asked the carers if I could go to bed at 23:10.
This morning I woke up at 06:00 and watched a film. I had my bladder wash at 08:20, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I was eating my breakfast when the nurse said that the diabetes nurse was here to see me. He said my doctor had asked for him because my blood/sugar level was a bit high at 8.1. He told me it should be between 6.5 and 7.5. He asked me what my diet including sweets and biscuits. He said the medicine I was taking would increase. After breakfast I went to the computer room at 10:15 and watched Outcasts via the BBC Iplayer.

On Friday afternoon I did my exercises, watched television and read my book. After tea I was hoisted into the wheel/arm chair and watched television. About 21:00 I fell asleep and woke up at 23:30. I asked the carers to put me in bed.
I woke up at 05:30 and watched a film. I got up at 08:15, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed, putting my thermal vest and long johns on. Because we're going to Leeds this morning. I had my breakfast at 09:45 then I was loaded onto the mini-bus. We set off at 10:00 and arrived at Leeds at 11:00. We parked near Park Square and went to the shops because the carer wanted the toilet. We went up Briggate, down The Headrow and up Cookridge Street to the Millenium Square. We were going to visit an exhibition about The Chinese New Year because one of our residents is Chinese and he was meeting his family. We met his family outside The CarriageWorks and the rest of us went in. It cost £5 and there was exhibitions on calligraphy, singing, dancing, tai chin and knitting. We went through these but at 12:00 we decided to go out for something to eat. There were a few restaurants next door and we went to The Spice Quarter next door. It was a self service and there was Indian, Italian, English or Tai. I had Chicken Balsi, Onion Balsi, Potatoes, Rice. I had plenty and others had two platefuls. I had a still water and it cost £10.75. We went back into The CarriageWorks to watch the performances in the theatre. We watch some Chinese dancing, some Belly dancing and a women doing Tai Chi but it was amateurish so we came out. We walked through the shops and I bought some Diabetic sweets from Thorton's which cost £2.30. At 15:30 we were all tired and we decided to go to our mini-bus to wait for our Chinese resident. At 15:55 he texted us and we went in our mini-bus to get him. We asked him if he went to the exhibition but he said they went for a meal !
We set off home and got back at 17:30. I had my tea and watched television until at 22:00 I went to bed. I woke up at 06:00 and watched a film which I'd taped from Sky Atlantic. I got up at 08:15, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had my blood/sugar levels taken 7.4, had my breakfast and went into the computer room at 10:02.

I tried to get the movie which I had downloaded from Amazon Studios but I couldn't get it to work. I ordered a new modem cable because one of ours does not work. After lunch while I was doing my exercises I found I was getting breathless and couldn't breathe through my nose. I think I'm getting cold. I read my book and after tea I went into the computer room to try to download a film from Amazon Studios again. It didn't work so I went into my bedroom and asked for the carers to put my feet on my buffet. They said after tea I should sit in the wheel/arm chair. I was hoisted into it and watched television. I watched England beat Wales at rugby union. I fell asleep around 22:00 and woke up at 00:05. I called for the carers to put me to bed.
This morning I woke up at 06:30 and watched the television until 08:20. The nurse came she told me that she'll do my bladder wash in 10 minutes. After my bladder wash I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had breakfast and went into the computer room.

My Life being Disabled 04/02/11

After tea yesterday my carers put me in a wheel/arm chair. I watched television until 23:30. The nurse told me she will wake me up around 07:00 to take some blood but I can't eat anything after 22:00.
I woke up at 05:00 and watched two films. The nurse came in at 07:10 she tried to take some blood and at the fourth attempt she got some. My alarm went off at 08:15 but the carer said I must wait because the hoist is being used. They came in 08:45 and cut my hair. I cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I went into the dining room and had my breakfast. I went into the computer room and signed on at 10:10. I read my email which included one from Monkey Magazine in it was an article about Amazon Studios who produces film free of charge. I downloaded one "Little White Lies".

My Life being Disabled 03/02/11

I continued breathing into a paper bag everytime I felt I was going to have a panic attack. The nurse told I had an appointment with the doctor at 15:15. My son texted me to say he was coming over at 13:00. He came at 13:15 we were talking and watching the television. At about 13:45 the domestics came in and started cleaning. I started with a panic attack and used a paper bag to breath in. It continued but my son went and after about 15 minutes I was O.K.
At 14:50 we set off to the doctors when we got there we found out that his surgery is not wheelchair user friendly. I couldn't go in and the doctor wasn't there. We waited in our minibus but at 15:30 we decided to go home. The nurse said she would contact the doctor again.
Later on the nurse told me the doctor had prescibed some medicine which I have take three times a day.
After tea I asked my carer if she would check my pad because I thought my bowels had opened. She told me that they were going to put me in the wheel/arm anyway and I said put me in bed. I watched television but I feel asleep at 18:30. I woke up at 20:15 when the nurse came in and brought my medicine. I stayed awake until 22:00 then I fell asleep again. I woke up at 04:20 when the carers came to check on my night bag. I fell asleep again until 06:00 and watched a film.
This morning my carers and my nurse discovered my lips were swollen and I had a rash. Today it is Chinese New Year the year of the Rabbit and we are going to have a Chinese lunch. Also we're going to Leeds Millium Square to celebrate this on Sunday.

My Life being Disabled 02/02/11

Yesterday afternoon I did my exercises in my wheel/arm chair. Clarke and Parteners came out to mend my wheelchair and I got in it later on. I had a potatoe for tea and I went to watch my television. When the carers were sorting me out they noticed that my bowels had opened. They changed me and put me in front of television. I watched it until 22:15 then I went to bed. I thought I had a panic attack but as usual I tried ignore it. It lasted until I went to sleep but as soon as I woke up it started again. I watch two movies until at 07:10 I called the nurse. She couldn't find my paper bag so she went to find another. She found one and I blew in it until I got up at 08:25.
I cleaned my teeth, had a shave, showered and got dressed. I had Weetabix and a coffee for breakfast. I asked for two paracetomols from the nurse and went in the computer room. One the carers asked me if I wanted to see a movie called "Hereafter" directed by Clint Eastwood. I said yes so she put this in a book for the skills people.

Yesterday afternoon I did my exercises and read my book. I found out that Clarke & Parteners were coming out tomorrow at 11:00 to mend my electric wheelchair and my moulded seat. My eldest son texted me to say he is coming to see me on Wednesday afternoon.
This morning I had a bladder wash, cleaned my teeth, shaved, showered and got dressed. I had breakfast and went to the computer room. I changed all my passwords.
